Crypt Monster Maquette

A friend of mine was art directing a low budget horror film & contacted me about some props & effects that he needed. He also sent me some artwork of the creature (picture above - i DID NOT draw it!!) that would be created with CGI. My housemate was keen to provide the FX needed (a simple spike that was to look like it had impaled an unfortunate cast member) & i jokingly said "I'll sculpt a maquette of the creature if you want". He said yes.
As he couldnt pay me for it he was happy for m to do it as & when i had the time. So i did bits when i could over a 2 week period. The time spent on it adds up to about a week. I did it with a mix of Super Sculpey & Super Sculpey Firm.

Although the director was apparently thrilled to be getting this unexpected toy & loved what i'd done no one ever came to collect it & to this day its sat on a shelf gathering dust......

Chaos Creature

This is another random sketch/sculpt done in Super Sculpey. It was inspired by a scene from the Warhammer 40,000 comic "Inquisitor". One panel shows a Chaos Daemon making its presence known by gruesomely bursting out from within its "host" human that it had until recently been possessing.

Orc

Here's a guy i created as a personal project. I pretty much made him up as i went along really. I spent about 3 days on the clay sculpt & used marbles for the eyes. The teeth were made from sculpey which i removed from the finished sculpt & baked hard.

I messed around with various designs & colour schemes in photoshop until i had something i was happy with.

A plaster mould was made & latex was poured inside & dried until thick enough. The resulting cast was tidied up & painted with a 50/50 mix of acrylic paint & pros-aide. Seeing as though i was making it up as i went i decided to go for a different paint job than the photoshop version though the hair remained the same.

Glass eyes from a taxidermy supplier were inserted in place of the marbles & the sculpey teeth were glued back in. I cut up an old wig & attached the hair which was then cut to match the photoshop image. I applied gloss varnish to the mouth & nostrils & manked up his hair with styling wax to make it look greasy.

He sits atop my speaker next to my desk!

Biohazard Combat Armour

In 2009 i was approached by two film students from the Leeds Metropolitan University. They asked me to design & create three suits of futuristic military armour for their short film "Biohazard". I sculpted the helmet & torso with clay & these were moulded with silicone & cast out in fibreglass. The undersuit is customised motorcycle body armour.

At first i sculpted a highly detailed helmet which i then decided didn't really suit the rest of the armour design so i sculpted a more simplified & imposing helmet.

The finished torso armour sculpt & the final suit of armour completed with customised motorcycle body armour. The rifle was designed by Dan Martin & built by Dynamo.

Some test footage i shot of the suit nearing completion.
